California is not called California in Germany because the German name for California is "Kalifornien." This is likely due to the differences in language and pronunciation between English and German. The name "Kalifornien" is the German adaptation of the Spanish name "California," which was the original name given to the region by Spanish explorers. Therefore, the name has been translated and adapted to fit the German language and phonetics. **
